Pediatric SAFE Training for Healthcare Professionals

ON-LINE TRAINING PRECEDES CLASSROOM TRAINING IN Oakland

Online Training Component - Online training component can be accessed after enrollment begins.

14 of the 28 credit hours of training are delivered on-line. The on-line program covers child sexual abuse epidemiology, reporting, service delivery models, developmental anogenital anatomy,  use of the California CalEMA forms (formerly OES forms), injury terminology, psychodynamics of sexual abuse and assault, sexually transmitted disease, and courtroom communication. It is a multimedia presentation that includes audio narration, video clips, flash modules, interactive activities and discussion groups. Participants will be required to complete this on-line component before being admitted to the remaining hours of training scheduled for September 13-14 in Oakland, California. Participants will have access to the online training component of this training when they complete their registration.

This program provides essential training to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and registered nurses on how to conduct careful and competent evidentiary examinations for children and adolescents who are suspected victims of sexual abuse or sexual assault. This course covers the exam protocol to be followed for both the acute and non-acute (late disclosure) occurrence. It places special emphasis on training examiners to follow the California Protocol and use the CalEMA 2-925 and 2-930 forms to document injuries and collect evidence. The classroom portion of the course will cover history taking from child and teen victims and provides a day long skills training.
