Forensic Photography for Healthcare Professionals

This one-day forensic photography course has been designed to meet the specific needs of healthcare providers for the documentation of injuries. Basic instruction and extensive hands-on experience using digital point-and-shoot cameras are geared toward providing training on fundamental photographic techniques. Cameras are provided for the course.

Course Objectives
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Outline and define the basic principles of forensic photography;
  • Describe the various types of photo documentation equipment;
  • List the criteria of a quality forensic photograph;
  • Describe the system for security, storage, identification, duplication and retrieval;
  • Include medical/legal issues within their photographic protocols;
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the equipment to achieve a quality image; and
  • Incorporate interactions with patients to enhance patient comfort with the process.
Professional Certificate in Forensic Photography for University Credit
A Professional Concentration in Forensic Photography is offered by the University of California, Davis Extension Program with a total of 8 quarter units of academic credit and includes:
  • Introduction to Digital Photography (2 quarter units)
  • Forensic Photography Part One (3 quarter units)
  • Forensic Photography Part Two (3 quarter units)
Courses can be taken individually or as part of the professional concentration. The program is designed for law enforcement officers, investigators, medical personnel, government officials involved in disaster investigations and documentation, private detectives, legal and paralegal personnel, engineers and technicians, and other professionals interested in gathering and/or documenting data for legal and/or scientific purposes. www.extension.ucdavis.edu
